On February 17, cashier Rachel and her fiancé, Paul Buckman—both white—welcomed their son, Cash Jamal Buckman, prompting viral attention due to the baby’s distinctly darker complexion 

The truck stop’s official Facebook page celebrated the birth, but the image of the newborn alongside his light-skinned parents triggered a storm of online comments demanding proof of paternity and questioning the baby’s origins. In response, the business later edited its post and attempted to defuse the situation by explaining that Rachel has African-American ancestry—though perhaps only a small percentage—and that the baby’s darker tone could be influenced by jaundice
